Adding Security and Communication to a Historical Building (Residence/Office)

Adding Security and Communication to a Historical Building (Residence/Office)

THE SCENARIO:

A building, originally constructed as a warehouse in the 19th century, held historical and architectural value. It had been recognized as an industrial heritage and underwent renovations around 2000 that preserved its exterior while transforming it into residences, offices, and commercial facilities. Two decades after these renovations, the existing intercom system installed during the renovation suffered partial malfunctions and became inoperative. Consequently, the owners' management association decided to replace the entire intercom system and sought a prompt replacement.

In response to the various demands of residents and tenants regarding intercom system - such as the desire to answer visitors remotely using smartphones, confirm visitors during absences, verify visitor identities by viewing their faces, and favoring a cost-effective and user-friendly intercom operation - the owners' management association desired a system with a variety type of intercom room stations.

THE SOLUTION:

To eliminate the need for rewiring and reduce the construction period, a bus-wired apartment intercom system was considered. After inspecting the existing wiring to ensure its usability, a bus-wired apartment intercom system was proposed to the owners' management association and received approval.

AIPHONE's range of room stations, including video stations with recording functionality that can sync with smartphones, simple video intercoms, and audio intercoms, met the various demands of the residents/tenants.

In Europe, historic buildings are often used as offices.

Many countries in Europe and the Nordic region, such as the UK, Germany, Portugal, Finland, and Sweden, actively promote the renovation and reuse of historic and old buildings. This trend is not limited to Europe, as Canada and Australia have also actively embraced this concept. Additionally, there are instances where cities, like New York City in the United States, London in the UK, Berlin in Germany, and Melbourne in Australia, have embraced this approach.

For property owners, building management companies, and owner management associations (OMAs), the notion of renovation extends beyond mere repairs. It presents a valuable opportunity to reevaluate crucial building infrastructure components, including building management systems, security systems (CCTV), access control systems, intercoms, and fire alarm systems. This reexamination contributes significantly to the enhancement of building safety. AIPHONE offers an extensive range of products to assist with these systems.
